How to prepare images and PDFs in your browser

Prepare image documents by checking the destination's requirements first, then resizing or compressing source images, arranging pages and creating the PDF. Merge existing PDFs only after checking their page order. Download the output and reopen it before submission. Compression, format conversion and merging solve different problems: a smaller source image can reduce a newly created PDF, while merging existing documents does not itself guarantee a smaller final file.

Step-by-step workflow

  1. Read the destination's allowed formats, maximum file size, page dimensions and readability requirements.
  2. Keep an original copy. In Image Compressor, choose dimensions and output format deliberately, then compare the actual output size and legibility.
  3. Use Image to PDF for image pages. Arrange them in the intended order and check orientation and margins.
  4. Use PDF Combiner when the source documents are already PDFs. Check the order of whole files and the resulting pages.
  5. Download, reopen and review the final file. Confirm both the byte limit and readable text before submitting it.

A worked example

Illustrative example: three photographed pages must become one PDF. Keep the originals, crop or resize only when the destination permits it, and check that small text remains readable after compression. Arrange the pages before creating the PDF. If the result exceeds the limit, revisit image settings and create it again; do not assume merging another copy will shrink it.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing a maximum-size target with a guarantee that every image can reach it.
  • Converting transparent images to JPEG without choosing a background.
  • Assuming image-to-PDF conversion performs OCR or turns photographed text into selectable text.
